The Campbeltown Malts Festival - Wednesday 21st May to Friday 23rd May 2014

The Springbank Open Day has been running since 2009 and each year the event continues to attract more and more visitors to Campbeltown. Inspired by the Explore Campbeltown initiative, this year we are extending the celebrations and from Wednesday 21st May to Friday 23rd May 2014, Campbeltown’s three distilleries will be working together to create The Campbeltown Malts Festival where the whiskies from Springbank, Glengyle and Glen Scotia are all celebrated. Below is a break down of the different events which will take place during the festival:

Wednesday 21st May 2014

During the Wednesday afternoon, Glen Scotia Distillery will be celebrated. There will be free tours of Glen Scotia running at 12 noon and 2.30pm and at 4pm, a representative from Glen Scotia will be holding a whisky masterclass in the Tasting Room at Cadenhead’s Whisky Shop where different Glen Scotia malts will be on offer. The cost is £25 per person and tickets can be booked by emailing mairi@springbankwhisky.com or calling 01586 552009.

On the Wednesday evening, the 10th birthday of Glengyle Distillery will be celebrated with two special events. The first will be a dinner in the Still House at Glengyle Distillery. Tickets to this have now sold out but for those who missed out you can still help celebrate the big birthday by joining us for the '10th Birthday Ceilidh' which will take place in the building beside Glengyle. This will start at 8pm and music will be provided by local musicians, The Kinloch Ceilidh Band. Tickets cost £5.00 and are available from Cadenhead’s Whisky Shop, Campbeltown or by emailing mairi@springbankwhisky.com.

Thursday 22nd May 2014

Thursday 22nd May will see Springbank Distillery host its 6th annual Open Day. Events will kick off in the distillery yard at 11am and there will be various activities taking place throughout the day.

Between 11am and 5pm there will be free distillery tours, a wide range of masterclasses and warehouse tastings, over 20 stalls from local businesses, a warehouse whisky bar - £5 for 5 drams, Fyne Ales, two special Open Day bottlings, local musicians, hot food, amazing cakes from Frances at Muneroy and Campbeltown Camera Club’s photo exhibition.

From 5.30pm there will be live music from Kintyre Songwriters Adam Fortune and Lewis Semple followed by the sounds of Kintyre based band, The Democrats. There will also be hot food and a drinks marquee available as well as a short, whisky related performance from Footnotes Dancers and some of the Springbank staff. The evening entertainment will finish at 9.30pm. This event attracts many visitors to the town and we hope to encourage more locals to come along and join in the fun!

Friday 23rd May

On Friday 23rd May there will be the Campbeltown Malts Open Golf Competition at Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club. It will be a ‘Pairs Betterball’ format for the competition with some good prizes up for grabs.
