MULL-OF-KINTYRE

Postby jdmullikin » Sun Jan 29, 2012 7:55 pm

I'm Doug Mullikin. I live in Missouri, USA . I have been able to trace my family tree back to 1650 when my ancestor James Gunnel Mullikin imigrated to the Maryland Colony in America from Scotland. I would like to trace his history to his origins in Scotland.
When I recently heard Paul McCartney's song "MULL OF KINTYRE" I thought it interesting how close that name was to mine!

MULL I KIN tyre ?
MULLIKIN OF KINTYRE?

I'm not sure why anyone would want to leave such a beautiful island, but thought this forum would be a good place to start.

Can anyone tell me where I might go to get a better handle on JAMES GUNNEL MULLIKIN circa 1650?

thanks,
Doug Mullikin

Hi Doug,

Welcome to the Kintyre Forum and best wishes with your research!

Just to quickly highlight that the "Mull of Kintyre" is the southwesternmost tip of the Kintyre Peninsula in southwest Scotland and not an island. Nearly but not quite. You may of course be picking up on the island of Mull which lies further north.

Anyway, good luck with your search. :-)

I think that spelling is a variant of Mulligan.

• Mary Weylett 1630 – 1667

His Grandparents:

Hi Doug..., be careful with the following, I'm quite tired and I didn't verify my facts ! Lol !

Anyway, it seems as if you should be careful. Some have JG Mullikin with a mother called Mary Jane Darnall and a son called James Gunnel Jr. Mullikin 1650-1718. (death Prince Georges Co, MD with wife Jane Prather and daughter Mary 1685-1750)
----------------------
On the other hand, I found this:

James Myllinghan Mullikin
Birth 1616 in Kircudbright, Scotland
Death 16 OCT 1667 in Calvert County, Maryland

James Mullikine
Birth in Scotland
Marriage to Jeane Gordon in Kircudbright about 1615
Death 1633 in Kircudbright, Scotland

John Mullikine
No place names for him except for a wedding to Margaret McMath in about 1600. Margaret’s birth?-1599.

Maternal line:
Margaret McMath
Birth
Death DEC 1599

Margaret’s parents:
John McMath
Jane Hunter.
---------------------------
Lol ! Kircudbright..., don't buy a ticket to Campbeltown as you’re roots look closer to Robert Burns:  Slange var !
