British Newspaper Archive

The BNA can be a very useful resource for researchers to supplement conventional and genetic genealogy with contemporary newspaper reports available online by subscription. However, its coverage of British newspapers is very patchy with some counties having many newspaper titles digitised and available and others much fewer. Argyll is a large and important county but at the present time only one newspaper title from Argyll is included in the BNA and that is the 'Oban Times and Argyllshire Advertiser', and only issues from 1868 to 1873. Kintyre does get a mention but I do feel that if the Campbeltown Courier were to be included in the digitised archive it would be a very valuable asset for members of this forum.

I don't have any influence with the BNA I'm afraid but they do ask people (and I don't think you have to be a subscriber) to vote for newspapers to be included in the future. Can I please encourage you to vote for inclusion of the Campbeltown Courier by going to https://help-and-advice.britishnewspape ... d-add-next and entering Campbeltown Courier in the 'Enter your idea' search box. This will bring up the Campbeltown Courier nomination. Just click on the box below where it tells you how many votes the Courier has received so far and you will be given the option to award it 1, 2 or 3 votes. You can also strengthen our case by adding a comment in the large box below.

Thank you, and I hope that through our efforts we can arrange for historical copies of the Courier to be digitised and made available online.

Thanks Duncan.

I totally concur about BNA and have added my vote and comment in support of adding the Campbeltown Courier to the digital archive.

Wow..., I'm a member. I'll take a look.

A few weeks ago the Campbeltown Courier started a photo group using Facebook. In it, I added that they should go digital.
However, I get the impression that Scotland's People have 'bribed' them into depriving the world of their centuries of content. :(
