Maybe it is helpful to start with what we actually know.
My earliest Kintyre ancestor is Charles McLean born Ireland about 1820 married Flora McConachy of Killean.
His parents were Duncan McLean and Betsy McLachlan also born Ireland. Duncan was born c1785. He is in 1841 census, but not 1851.
So far, I have been unable to find a death certificate or register for either of them, and all certificates just say Ireland.
They seem to have spoken Gaelic.
So I have run into the sand with trying to establish where they were from in Ireland. Culfeightrin is a best guess, just because there were McLeans there and it is so close to Kintyre. Also, Hendry appears as a family name a couple of generations later; it is not such a common one.
Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thank you.
