Childhood memories

Postby bill » Fri Sep 03, 2010 3:58 pm

Thought I would share this photograph from my childhood,1952 I would say.

Obviously I know where it was taken.

Anyone else recognise the location ?

Maybe others could post a photograph from their childhood.

I know my Summer'll never come
I know I'll cry until my dying day has come
Let the Winter roll along
I've got nothing left but song

Wracking my brain over this Bill. Was it the Rex car park? (or thereabouts)

Sorry Gizmo but Emdee has it sussed without any clues apart from my affirmation that the building in the background is indeed still standing. :D

It's actually straight across the road from the wee pictures,so that's the library in the background.

Not from any angle I recognise. Is there a fuller picture?

I think that pillar is the corner of the library. The man in the photo is turning up St Johns St and the building you see stood opposite the library. Although I cant say I have ever seen a photo of it before. Very interesting photo though.

Bill said the building is still standing so it would need to be the Masons from that angle yes/no? The stonework doesn't look like sanstone that the library is built from so thought the pillar must be somewhere else. I am confused.

I think the bench must have been on Hall St in front of the wee pictures and the library is just out of shot on the right. I have an old photo that might confirm it. But I have never seen a photo of a building opposite the library door. C'mon Bill put us out of our misery :?

I thought the building in the background was made of "rubble" and not sandstone. Maybe the light is playing tricks? If it is someone turning in away from hall Street there is no building there? C'mon Bill fess up!
