Here are the dates for the Junior Handicap Open Series 2014. They will be subject to change over the course of the year, but only if they clash with other dates.

CJRC will hold a time trial as mentioned above. If you like to register please contact Sarah McFadzean our welfareofficer@campbeltownrunningclub.com or Fiona Graham (coach)

Venues and Dates ( all Sunday mornings). 10:30am

27th April : Loch Lussa

18th May : Pennygown

22nd June : Bellochantuy

17th Aug. : Westport Beach

21st Sept. : Machrihanish (MOD)

19th Oct. : Campbeltown. (Senior route) with marshals at 2 points.

The distance will be 2.5km consisting of out and back route of 1.25km

6 Races, five to count. Scoring slightly different from the adults with the intent to stop big numbers at the start dwindling down to a few.

It will score like this

12 points for the winner, 10 points for second 8 for third and 5 points for all that run. This will encourage all to still take part with a chance of winning right up until the end.

3 categories for prizes, which will depend on numbers, towards the end.

Overall winner

1st, 2nd, third, male

1st, 2nd, third, female.

Best improver or effort decided by us.

Please feel free to ask any question or concerns you may have. There will be an entry cost of £1.00 per race, per child, which will total £6.00 paid over the course of the year to help towards the cost of refreshments etc.

This is a great event and can be competed and won by anyone that really wants to improve their running over the course of the spring/summer. It will be held at great venues around the area of Kintyre and it will have a presentation night at the end for all that entered.

Thanks

Hi all

Before I forget and get on with things, I must point out that one stipulation for all runners entering the handicaps, whether it be from the Junior club or from the open invitation, one must be able to run the full distance of 2.5k, without stopping.

Two reasons, the first being is for you the Junior runner, that if you cannot complete the distance it will be very demoralising, and distressing and even off putting which is against the ethos of introducing this event in its first year.

The second is that 2.5k is a distance that requires to be built up to for all ages, to be on the safe side of the health and fun, and the feeling off achievement that this race will present to you at the end.

So junior runners on the entering the the time trial of 1.5 km, I will gauge your ability on your projected time and advise you whether you will be able to achieve the cut of point for the next race or not.

So between now and the first race I suggest you build up to the distance and even go above it, to be confident to succeed on the day and really feel the fun side of competing against each other over the six races.

If you don't manage to get to run the first race in April, you still can build up your distance and enter the May race and so on, right up to when you are capable of hitting the criteria that is required.

If you need any advice, please feel free to ask.

Hi all,

I would just like to run through how the event works for those new to the handicap events.

Every runner runs a time trial, that time gets recorded or has a time that has already been recorded at an earlier race within a certain date which is classed as their best running time for the said distance. This case being 1.5k.

Example

Billy Nomates time is 13min 30s for 1.5k.

Then Billy Nomates and everyone's distance will be converted into a distance of 2.5k. It is then converted in to a predicted time for that distance from a recognised time and distance converter. (My job)

Example

Billy Nomates predicted time for the 2.5k is now 20min to cover that distance.

So if Billy Nomates has the fastest time he will be last to set off in the race.

Then everyone who has a time slower than Billy Nomates will set off before him at their individual time difference.

Example

Johnny lotsoffriends has a predicted time of 21min to cover the distance, he will therefore have a handicap ( slower ) time of 1min compared with Billy Nomates.

So Johnny lotsoffriends will set off 1min before Billy Nomates.

So if you run true to your ability everyone should finish together. That is the theory, but rarely the case because of a number of reasons, which I won't go into.

Anyone can win the event and it is usually the ones that keeps training and improving will normally benefit, but exceptions to the rules are always there.

Any further info on how it is conducted, feel free to ask

Thanks

Hi All,

here is the details of our first race of the,

Campbeltown Junior Runners Handicap Series 2014

Race 1 of the 6 race Series

Date: Sunday 27th April 2014

Time: 10:30 am

Venue: Loch Lussa

Distance 2.5km

Terrain : Forrest Track

We shall be giving each runner a number as like the adults, sometime in the near future.

The results of the time trial of 1.5km that was held on the meadows, will now be calculated up to the 2.5km time. So I don't see a point in putting them up on here, as I might have to juggle a few, in order to show the true reflection on that runners true ability and fairness.

The true sense of holding the handicaps is mainly focused on fun, secondly it can and will show everyone's improvement over the coming months by and if you are attending the running club on a weekly bases.

Feel free to ask any question ref the series as a whole.

Thanks

Hi All,

here are your allocated numbers, which will be used on all the race series this year, They are in no particular order, I did however tried to give the younger runners the low numbers, so they could remember them easily.

The number you are allocated is to be remembered, which is then in turn given by you to the time keeper for exchange of the disc you are handed at the end the race. this then tie's up with the position and time that you finished in.

This sequence of events will ensure everything runs smoothly.

1 Emily McMurchy
2 Cara McFadzean
3 Hannah Millar
4 Emma Millar
5 Hanna McCaig
6 Caryn Kerr
7 Max Graham
8 Claudia Graham
9 Violet Campbell

Hi you have a William McMillan down on the list but my son William McLean isn't on it. I am just wondering if the surnames have gotten mixed up. He had token 12 on Sunday if that helps. Thanks. Catherine McLean

Well done to all that turned up at Loch Lussa this morning for the first race of the series. The weather was on the side of the spectator rather than the runners who had a stiff breeze to contend with on the out section, but was probably all forgotten on the turn by having the wind in the sails on the way back to the finish.

Great effort by everyone, as the senior runners will tell you, " their is no easy race " when it comes to handicapping racing. Everyone should be well pleased with their effort and aim to improve in what ever capacity on the next run. Whether it be in speed, distance, endurance , pacing , one of them can be your next aim. Practice make perfection.

Once again "well done to all" great job done.

Here are the provisional real times for now . All handicaps will be adjusted for the next race at the Meadows.

Hi All,

Just to let you know there will be a change of Venue for our second race of the series. (18th May).

The Meadows is out and it will be replaced by Pennygown route. The reason being is that(to be honest)it was a bad choice on my part and it could cause to much confusion reference the route you would have to negotiate on the day.

By picking Pennygown it will be good introduction to running a continuos incline for the first 1250m then a nice free run down hill, for those that have not run it before. On doing this it will set us up for Bellochantuy Race which has an undulating route.
Bellochantuy route will not be the same as the Seniors, it is a more gentle intro to hill running.

Sorry for any inconvenience , but races are always subject to change for what ever reason. I shall post up the details and route in the next few days.

Thanks.

Hi all,

Here are the details for Race 2 of the series. " The Pennygown Puffer" this is a puffer, It has a hill.

Campbeltown Junior Runners Handicap Series 2014

Date:18th May 2014

Time: 10:30am

Venue: Pennygown

Distance: 2.5k

Terrain: Forrest track

I will put the route on here closer to the race, it will show the starting area and a rough turn point.

I know it is more difficult to car share as a family, but if you can, it would help. Parking is not as spaces as some venues but we'll manage.

It is still not to late for people to enter this event, but one must realise that if you are not into any sort of real active sport like running, football, etc, then one would find this quite hard.

Thanks

Hi all,

I have posted the results up on the above post so that you can see and compare you effort from the last race. Remember this race was a lot tougher than Lussa, so if your time is down, then that is why. Another thing is,if you feel you really had a bad run for what ever reason. So saying this I hope to reassure you, we all have them days and the beauty of a 6 race series with 5 races to count, it allows all to have a bad day at the office, as one would say.

Well done to you all, thanks everyone involved and their help, and the parents out in support of you all. Looking at the results and the set distance and terrain, you have come on leaps and bounds, but more so we hope you enjoy the fun in your achievements even more.

Next race Bellochchantuy 8th June.

Thanks
