DJD's Castle Toward Fundraiser

For 2011 we have decided to give the healthy local running and jogging community a forum of their own!

DJD's Castle Toward Fundraiser

Postby caro » Wed Feb 06, 2008 9:20 pm

Each year all P7 pupils from South Kintyre Schools go on a residential weekend visit to Castle Toward, Dunoon. This offers a great opportunity for all pupils involved to socialise and build friendships before starting at CGS.

Funding has been limited this year so we have a few pennies to find! DJD has come to the rescue and very generously offered to raise some funds which will go direct to the residential trip.

DJD is going to run the London Marathon in May. He is running a sweepstake for his nearest time with a generous 'closest time' prize. All involved in the running of the Toward trip are greatly appreciative of his fantastic support!

So... a plea to all who regularly read this thread...we would be very grateful if you could support this fundraiser by having a shot or two in the sweepstake. Sid and I will be taking the tickets to various training nights.

Thanks everyone...and especially DJD! :D [/i]

That is a fantastic gesture - thanks, Andrew.

Still looking for any contributors to offer support. Sid and myself still have the sweepstake times etc. for those who would still like to become involved.

Thanks to everyone who has purchased a time so far - good luck! :D

I make it 104 ticket drawn which equals £208 in money taken. I am taking the form into the Grammar tomorrow and hope to get some more.

I only see the two pledges DJD. What were the other two you mentioned?

DJD

I'll give my tenner to Fiona (not Fiona28), to pass on to Sid, at work on Monday. Would have preferred a time round about the 3 hour mark, as I reckon that you are aiming for that milestone, with all the miles you are putting in.

Best of luck.

I'll throw a wee story in here-- Glasgow Marathon--the second one I think, maybe '83 or '84, me and a mate decide to have a go at it. Went to the pasta party on the Saturday night and Heiniken had a free bar -- for half pints, as long as you showed your registration. Me and Nigel had many half pints each--they must have reckoned that runners wouldn't get sauced up the night before a big run, but we did----and we were staying free gratis at the Excelsior Hotel at Glasgow airport, another story. Anyway we woke up late on the Sunday morning, jumped on a bus into Glasgow and arrived at the now defunct Anderston Bus station, 25 minutes before the Marathon was due to start at Glasgow Green.

We haired up Argyll Street, I reckon we must have went at least a mile and a half, very quickly, at the very least 10K pace. Got ushered into a big tent, got changed, and made it into the crowd in time for the starting hooter.

My time that day was 3 hrs and 2 mins. I was devastated--lack of preparation had caused me to fail on what, at that time was my biggest goal.

My advice to everyone is not to pay disrespect to your training regime on the Saturday night. The Sunday will take care of itself and you will most certainly enjoy the Sunday night much better
