Hi All
Its nice to see everybody trying to organise a running club in the town again, If i can be as bold as to suggest that someone talks to Martin Grady, Martin was the Secretary when we had Kintyre A.C years ago, he might still have some paperwork that you could adapt to suit ur constitution, or at least point you in a direction that you may want to go in for information on the benefits of a running club.
As a member of the Scottish AAA you will be entitled to a reduced entry fee into a lot of races for club members, you will be covered under their insurance while running in organised races and if im correct you will be offered reduced rate insurance for races that you are organising, you will also be given access to their coaching system and in turn will be entitled to apply for grants to cover costs of attending these courses
As a member of the Scottish AAA you will be entitled to 2 alloted places for the London Marathon, this is the way that my running partner and I gained entry into London in 1998, Kintyre A.C was allocated 2 entries, this is also the way that I gained entry in 2008 while running for Tipton Harriers. It does not make any difference as to the size of the club as to how many places you get, they are limited to 2 places , most clubs run a ballot system for the alloted places, they encourage you to enter on your own and those that fail to get entry that way have their names put in a hat to be drawn for the alloted entry, if I remember correctly, those that get an alloted place still have to pay for the entry unless the club is prepared to cover the cost of the entry so in theory, entry into London that way could cost you as much as £70.00 if you bequief your original entry fee.
I am not aware of membership to the Scottish AAA allowing you entitlement to any alloted entries into any international events, this would need to be done by one of 3 ways:-
1, entry throught the ballot
2, entry through a charity place and collecting an alloted amount of money
3, entry through a sports tour operator, follow the links below for details
http://www.209events.com/2.09 events is operated by former London Marathon winner and elite runner Mike Gratton, it was previously called Mike Gratton Sports Tours and has operated for a long number of years, I can remember them being around as far back as 14 years ago.
http://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/runningSports Tours International have been around as far back as 1992 and I can vouche for them myself having used them 10 years ago for a major international sporting event
I will be frank and tell you that a sports tour operator is not a cheap option, but it is an option that a lot of runners travelling abroad choose to take, everything is organised for you, it also means that you do not have the bother of having to collect an alloted amount of money for a charity. A charity place usually means that you have to collect a minimum of £1,000.00 and then pay for all ur travel and accomodation on top of that which can take ur expenditure well above what you would need to pay a tour operator for an entry, travel and accomodation
hope this information is of use to you
