The Bootleg Beatles will headline this year's 19th Mull of Kintyre Music Festival. Formed from the cast of the West End/Broadway musical 'Beatlemania,' the group has had phenomenal success and have shared the bill with superstars Oasis, Rod Stewart, Elton John and David Bowie. Among many festival appearances, the group has played the main stage at world-famous Glastonbury. Lauded on the Graham Norton Show as 'the biggest tribute band in the world,' the group has played for none other than Her Majesty the Queen.

Bootleg Beatles Concert
Victoria Hall, Campbeltown
Saturday 20th August 2011

Doors 9.30pm Showtime 10pm
Tickets £25.00

The Mull of Kintyre Music Festival committee are delighted to announce that the Bootleg Beatles will headline the all standing concert on Saturday 20th August. Described by Graham Norton as “the biggest tribute band in the world”, they will take a trip down the original long and winding road. The band has already stated that they can hardly wait to visit Campbeltown and the Mull of Kintyre which is also the title of the hit penned by Paul McCartney.

Saturday night in the Victoria Hall will provide a high point for festival revellers who will get the opportunity to dress up, dance and sing along. The support band at the Bootleg Beatles concert will be The Twisted Melons who will warm the audience up with a retro set of music from the sixties, seventies with a little bit more.

Formed about 30 years ago from some of the cast of the West End Broadway musical ‘Beatlemania’, The Bootleg Beatles were the first western rock group to tour the Soviet Union. Since then the band have toured all over the World from India and The Far East to the USA and have played at many festival gigs including the main stage at Glastonbury 1994. After watching the group Noel and Liam Gallagher were so enamoured with their performance that they asked them to be the support act for their record-breaking 1995 Earl's Court shows - culminating with both bands sharing the stage for 'I Am The Walrus' (Captured on the video There and Then) - and then the following summer joining Oasis again for their massive outdoor events in Loch Lomond, Cork and Knebworth.  These gigs and an appearance on the cover of the NME, heralded the Bootleg Beatles' breakthrough to a new contemporary audience, something unheard of for a 'tribute' act. Since becoming regulars on the festival circuit, The Bootlegs have played Wembley with Rod Stewart and Elton John, shared the bill with The Corrs, David Bowie and Iggy Pop and filled Tokyo's Budokan Hall in their own right.

Liam and Noel Gallagher Oasis front men asked the Bootleg Beatles to support their Earls Court gig in 1995 and they have shared a bill with Rod Stewart, Elton John and David Bowie.

Over the years The Bootleg Beatles have performed in front of many, many thousands of people including such notable luminaries as Sir Paul McCartney, George Harrison, George Martin and Her Majesty, The Queen. Of all the venues they have played perhaps none (aside from Buckingham Palace!) was more auspicious than their appearance on the rooftop of the Apple Building at 3, Savile Row, London. On the freezing morning of 30th January 1999 the BBs performance commemorated the Fab Fours' farewell gig exactly 30 years ago to the day, the event transmitted on news channels across the globe.

Now into their 30th year the BB’s have set the standard for all those hundreds of ‘tribute bands’ who have followed in their footsteps as they continue to keep the spirit and magic of the greatest pop group the world has ever seen well and truly alive.

The Twisted Melons are a trio of brothers originally from Campbeltown and now based out of Glasgow. The band are Stephen (bass), Paul (Lead guitar, vocals) and Mark Johnson (drums, percussion), they are regulars at the MOK Fest playing every year. Last year they headlined the Saturday afternoon Doon the Green open air concert and played a fantastic retro set to go with the retro Grand Parade theme. This year they will play a similar set in the Victoria Hall where they previously played support to Deacon Blue in 2005.

The band have already recorded three CD’s (their first released in 2002) and two EP’s/singles and their latest single “Unstoppable Infinite/Language Is God” was released on 14th March this year.
The boys have stated that are delighted to appear again in the Victoria Hall on the Saturday night of the Festival and promise a set to remember.

The MOK Fest committee have asked the audience to get into the theme of the night by dressing up in fancy dress to fit the occasion, so get your 60’s and 70’s gear out and join in the fun!!

See you there!
