"boxing ring"

Postby mary,queen of everything » Sun Jan 08, 2006 9:15 pm

That picture triggered something to flash, for a brief moment, through the long lost caverns of my mind. I seem to recall a brass band ? salvation Army? on some sort of holiday celebration.

As far as i am aware it was a bandstand used for brass bands etc. I have never seen it used for tyhat purpose apart from one summer night about 15-16 years ago, when there was a dance held in the paddling pool at the end of festival week. it was a lovely warm evening but the bloody midges were terrible.

I believe the band on the bill that night were 'Four 4 Tea' Davie Bisset Guitar +Vocals, Chris Blair vocals, Paul Craig drums & Michael ? bass guitar. Anybody remember that night?

Yes it was a bandstand...I'm not that old but seem to remember the Sally Ann played on sunday afternoons but the real use was I think after the war.

Seeing the Rex was nice but raises another question...I remember as a kid getting lemonade and a biscuit at tables above stairs somewhere but was asking a pal did they ever serve hot food????I must have been 5 or 6 year old at the time.

Good Morning Paraffin Man,

I think your correct it was 15-16 years ago , a gorgeous night and I know as I was DJ before and after the band.
I cannae remember what the event was for , though as I don't think there was anything held there before or since , so it must have been a special reason.
I remember the generator we had didnae give me the correct turnrtable speeds ( 33 and 45 ) so I had to switch lightining on and off to achieve the correct demand.
Thanks for the memories Paraffin Man.
Regards

I mentioned this thread to my friend Colin, because we were talking about some band stuff, and he said, and I quote: "FYI it was Young Guns": Cammie and Colin Campbell, Paul Craig, Alan Hutchison and Chris Blair. He said they actually played there twice. The first time they almost set the Sea Cadet Hall on fire because they were running all the power from there, and the second time they had someone named Vince Jordan hotwire a rapidly melting generator. As far as they knew, no one had played there before so it seemed like a good laugh. He also said because it was such a calm night the police got complaints about the noise from Peninver.
