Now that we have got on to local delicacies has anyone out there tried the Beastie Cheese? If so was it sweet or savoury? I was given a little bit to try (sweetened variety) which was so -so until I found out what it was! Seemingly the flies are collosal when they first fill the bucket! Although it is eaten in Carradale it is usually by individuals from other parts of Kintyre. I believe that it was/is big in the likes of Drumlemble or Southend, but I'm sure that there are others know an awful lot more about it than me.......

Beastie Cheese- LO i have made a couple of enquires on this in the paraffin city, you are correct, this used to be one of the local delicacies out here. Apparently very popular too, though i dont know how!, still who knows what is in the food we eat now!

Oh the good old beastie cheese

it was a great favourite in Drumlemble, when we still milked cows I was quite often asked to provide some first milk to make the beastie cheese this was usually late at night in the Laggan bar :lol:

when someone would say that their wife made great beastie cheese.
One night we decided to try it for ourselves in the Laggan but thought it would be quicker if we did it in the microwave we followed the recipe to the letter and stuck it in the microwave but disaster it boiled too much and spleeters went all over the inside of the microwave poor Jessie had a hell of a job cleaning it (after we told her what we had used her microwave for) and I am sure the pies had a slight taste of first milk for weeks afterwards mind you it was a change from tomato or broon sauce :wink:

Bobbie, as JD said you really dont want to know what fried cows cleaning is believe me and it is nothing to do with haggis.
Im surprised at you 4th Gen :shock:
