I managed to stalk this little fella on Thursday up at Brackley:

Took the shot with my phone camera, he was as placid as anything, I even managed to stroke his fur with my finger. As far as I can tell, he's a Short Tailed Shrew and he was no more than two or three inches in length - absolutely tiny.

I've immortalised Sean the Shrew on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zs0ldtuKQV0

Interestlingly, shrews are NOT related to rats and mice, something to do with the number of digits on their feet, shrews have five and rodents only have four, according to Google that is.

Hello, I took this picture today

Image

At first I thought it was an otter, though I had a nagging doubt, but then someone said it might be a mink, which I had not considered. Can anyone shed light on the matter? Thanks.

It's truly amazing how this non-native species has become so ubiquitous throughout the UK in a relatively short number of years, and to such an extent that they have become a pest in many places.

A fur farm in this area of Staffordshire was raided many years ago and a lot of them were released in to the wild. :D

On the one nice day we had recently (Saturday), I was lucky enough to catch a shot of this kestrel.

I also got a shot of it holding its prey, which I didn't notice until I got home. Unfortunately it was quite far away.
