I was at the opening on Saturday and food was top notch. They serve food from 12 everyday, as far as a i know in both pub and the restaurant. Different menus for both, and I thought was reasonably priced when I had a look when I was in again on Sunday.
Think they are still settling into the new kitchen however. I'm going there on Saturday for lunch and really looking forward to it!

Feedback is always good but is it fair to post such a comment especially when you weren't even there?

Yes, I think so, this forum is about freedom of speech and helping others communicate their opinions, my friend
does not have internet access but asked me to express their opinion..........so there ye are now.........

I think I'll wait and try it myself before passing comment on the food. The pub itself is dearer than you would expect for a pint etc but I personally don't mind paying more when you look around and see how much has been spent on the place. I've paid alot more for a pint elsewhere so quite happy to do it here given the surroundings.

Here's a wee photo I took last week just before it officially opened.

They have to ask someone from Oban to post on a Kintyre site about a visit to a to a hotel in Campbeltown because they don't have the internet.....Strange!! Couldn't they have just told the staff as I am sure the management would want to know what their customers thought?

I'm with SCD in that I will try it out before making a comment.

Fair point Isa.In reality many people would not complain at the time but go away and tell their friends of their experience.

£3 for a pint of Tennents lager last night, which seems to be the going rate in other pubs in town. Belhaven was £3.40, not sure how that compares to elsewhere?
Can you blame the man for going out of his mind temporarily?

Why is it called The Black Sheep Pub? If it supposed to be an "authentic" Scottish drinking experience, then they have picked the wrong name. There are no other "pubs" locally. The are all bars or inns. Even in England they don't call their bars "pub" in the name. Seems a bit strange to me. Also a grille is what you have on the front of a car, a grill is something you cook food on. The mind boggles :@

Pub ? That ? Ha Ha Ha Ha, I nearly choked on my surgical spirit and orange. Get some thirty years of nicotine on the walls and ashtrays on the bar. Until then it'll be like all the other ex-pubs and bars, a sterile drink and food factory.
Anyway, I always associated pubs with England and Wales, bars with Scotland and Ulster.
I do hope this post offends the non-smoking brigade.
Ouch !

This person has a limited communication passport, not many people understand Makaton, my friend was visiting me at the time when I was reading this thread and asked me to put their views across. Additionally Isa, I live in Oban but was born in Campbeltown and lived there until 9 years ago but come home very regular as I have an extensive net work of friends and family there. Strange........how things are never quite what you think they are.............

Friends of mine did just that and came back saying it was expensive and not great quality, but hey let's not knock it, give them a chance to get settled, the first few weeks are always nerve wracking and we need this sort of investment and hope in the wee toon! Good luck to them! I am off to try it next week, I love the clubhouse at Mac Dunes so sure this will be every bit as good! :D

As it was I who began this topic, I would like to apologize for writing the word "Inn" when it should have read "Pub". I havn't visited "The Royal" yet but hope to in the next few days. I wish them all the very best for the future. Not so long ago it was a cold drab empty building and just look at it's appearance now! Yeah I wish the hotel every success. :D

I Agree MP, it is wonderfull to look across the Loch, from SCD's webcam , and see, after such a long time, lights switched on in the Royal Hotel! Fantastic to see such an important building to Campbeltown in full use once again.
I will, during my next journey to the Toon , make a point of visiting the Hotel, enjoy a meal and a few drinks too. I think the new owners should be applauded for returning the Royal to the Town.

But if you were paying top prices for anything, would'nt you expect top quality, regardless of how long the
establishment had been on the go?
Am sorry but if you serve up expensive mediocre food, people won't come back and they will tell their friends
not to go, that's the reality.
