Sorry Eileen, I honestly am not trying to be clever or smart but you have just committed one of the things that annoy me the most. It is not a big deal but I see it happening more and more in the written word.

Springbank don't make "whiskey"

As I say Eileen I am not being a smart arse cos we can all make typos but we should be very careful with the spelling of this word. On a plus side The Black Sheep is a classy establishment and therefore I would expect to pay a wee bit more for my whisky!

I think that the Americans and the Irish insert the"e".

Wasn't on here to be picked up for my spelling, just to make a fair comment. The very reason I stopped making comments on here, people like yourself picking up on wee spelling mistakes. Not that you made any comment about what I actually typed!

Decided to go for lunch in the Grille. We were shown to our table, given menus and the waitress left and forgot all about us.

After 15 minutes we spoke to another waitress who was passing the time of day chatting about the weather to patrons who had finished their meal. We said "excuse us, are you able to take our order"? She replied in a surly manner. "I'll be with you in a minute" and then promply left and didn't return. Eventually one of us went up to the bar to remind a third member of staff that we had now been sitting for half an hour. We could have understood if the place was busy but it wasn't.

Eventually our order was taken. We found the food and time taken for it to appear after ordering perfectly acceptable. The surroundings are lovely and the cost of the meal was okay.

The problem was quite clearly with the dining room staff. I felt one in particular let the place down a bit with her manner. We asked to speak to the manager but she was unavailable at the time.

Maybe a bit more training for the waitresses? ..............

All in all will definitely go back.

EileenH wrote:Russanros, don't know much about their ales, but have you seen their gantry with just about every whiskey from springbank, not to mention from the surrounding distilleries in the area? You're right, Americans do like to support locals. As far as I'm aware, they buy their fish, cheese and dairy products etc locally. my husband has had a few beers in the pub and said the prices were very much in line with the other pubs in the town.

Eileen as I said I was not trying to pull you up about spelling. I just get annoyed about the spelling of that word. Nothing sinister or smart. I would not know if Americans like to support locals but I am glad that the hotels do support local producers.

just thought that I would add my impressions of the black sheep. Visited, just after 6 PM, was told in no uncertain terms that they were no longer serving in the bar area. Despite the manner of the staff serving decided to stay and have a drink. The atmosphere in the bar area was sadly lacking, so left immediately for the Bermuda Triangle where the welcome was warmer. In future if I fancy a drink I will not be braving the winds round the harbour area, the Burnside et al will be getting my trade.

In need of sustenance I was forced back to the black sheep, I entered the dining area and was given a warm welcome by the staff. Our drinks were served quickly and the orders taken. A fish supper at £10.95 is not cheap. It was also nothing to write home about. I don't know where they are sourcing this fish from, but compared to what I have eaten fresh off a boat there it was hopeless. If anybody would care to enlighten me on this subject I would be most interested. Overall the experience was not unpleasant, there were quite a number of other diners present and they all appeared to be enjoying themselves. In conclusion I would say there are a number of other independent hotels etc that provide much better value and a more pleasant environment. From what I saw of the surroundings I would imagine the rooms would be far superior to most that are available in Campbeltown.

Been in loads of times now for a few pints, £3.00 for a pint of Tennants lager (Same as Feathers etc) is pretty good, must of watched about 5 Euro 2012 football matches and the place and staff were all A1....

The grub 2 visitors had at the table we were at looked spot on....

Deffo worth a visit....
