Davaar Cave Painting vandalised !!!

Forum publicising and discussing local issues and news in general.

Postby Reidiboy » Mon Jul 31, 2006 6:17 pm

I'm raging at this happening. Although i'm a local lad I have never been over to Davaar Island and seen the painting. I was planning to go over in two weeks time when im home with my girlfriend. It has totally put me off going over now!

String the bugger(s) up by the dangly bits assuming it was a male that commited the crime!
I am not completely useless............................... I can be used as a bad example!

Just to let you guys on the forum know, that an article about the painting and the vandalism will be in The Herald and The Press and Journal tomorrow. Hopefully this publicity will help to catch the person responsible. [/quote]

Have there been any similar instances of Che Guevara graffiti anywhere else? ...just a thought ..............

Actually, I looked at Malky's photos, and wondered, why didnt they do it in an adjacent cave and we could have captured the Cuban/Marxist tourist market as well ...................

Hopefully, even if the culptit(s) aren't caught, the media picking up the story will help with any funding required for a restoration job.

This is terrible - I visited the cave last summer with friends from Spain who were in awe of the painting. How disgusting to see this - makes me stomach churn!

As earlier in the thread, seems this is the job for a professional restorer, to take off the layers of paint and get to the original.

I hope the person isn't too smug.. to destroy something with no regard whatsoever to the people who consider it important... brace yourself... karma's a bitch.

Hey, with a link back to the forum and quotes from various members 8) Fame, at last

I wonder if the publicity will help find the culprit, or a reason for doing this?

Thanks for the link Malky.

I did not realise that a man had been spotted walking away from the Island, and his description has been circulated.

Circulated to who ---- the police?

Could his description be put on here to see if it rings any bells to the people on the forum.

Caught a bit about this on the news at lunch time with more on BBC Scotland tonight. Seems to be getting a bit of press right enough.

if there is a description of this suspicious character then surely the internet is a great place to distribute it. on this website for instance.

Its like rain on your wedding day

It's a free ride when you've already paid

It's the good advice that you just didn't take

Its Che Guevera, On jesus's face

And who would have thought...it figures

Ah well the painting will be restored and it got on the news, that cant be a bad thing. Every cloud and all that.

I saw the item about this on Reporting Scotland earlier - a live report from Campbeltown.
