Lads, Lads,

Don't let this get messy and ruin a good forum, this forum is a great source of interesting info for homesick expats like me.
Bubbly, I respect that your musical tastes might not mix with The Twisted Lemons, but that aside we should attempt to promote Campbeltown/Kintyre to everyone, and what better way than music.

Am with you this time bubbly, the thought police are outnumbering the thinkers these days, where would we be without the airing of opinion. - with soggy minds, thats where! - Ripe for the foostie fur of the pidgin holers.

I might be a wet man and well lubricated, but there’s room in my swimming pool of thought, for different strokes.

An what makes you think that my mother and father, (who are musically; on a scale of bone dry to sopping, just short of being suitable for taking creases out of a linen blouse, but not close to removing stubborn stains from leather upholstery)would appreciate the twisted melons?

Or are you suggesting that everyone does not include people like them, or bubbly. For they would not appreciate this!

Get real petewick, if you promote to everyone you have to expect and except that some will get uppity - then you can choose to listen to them or not, but don't shroud them in the black flag of unacceptability, even anarchists have rights, that is until they prevail.

Glesca Bochans

Postby Bochan Mor » Tue Jul 05, 2005 2:11 pm

Thank god the Glesca bochans are coming over for a spell. A bit of high jeenx from them will take folks minds off all of those serious things like music festivals, music, musicians, self proclaimed musicians, bagpipes, spoots, Snoddys, gleshans and all that kind of seasonal nonsense.

No, folk will be getting out of their beds earlier for fear that young Bun hasn't kneaded enough dough to feed the entire throng. Not such a bad thing, as lying in yer bed is jeest a waste of good daylight.

The regulars will be in the Crubhan early for fear of the ex-pats taking up all the seats. A few adders will slither out of the grass with a hint of July sunshine and claim their place at the bar, poised to fire out a few barbed comments in the direction of anyone showing any sign of instability.

The curiosity shop will be doing a roaring trade in Aztecs, Golden Cups, Peanut Treats, Marathons, Spangles and Opal Fruits, to name but a few. Hopefully though, it doesn't encourage Jonathon and his mates to head to the village on a sweety pilgrimage.

Gary will be digging a hole deep enough to dispose of the heaps of K9 waste. Lets hope that he's not digging at midnight at Sallys Walk, or some of the holiday makers will think that they've come upon a goul of some sort!

Aye happy days!

Not likely! In fact I'm thinking along the lines of bashing the posts in anyway, rather than concrete. Anyone got a 'thingy' (technical term) that I can borrow for a day to drive the galvanised posts in? They need to go in nearly 2ft and short of dynamite I ain't looking forward to tackling it with a spade.

Cheers
Gary

ps A most excellent night in The Glen tonight with visiting musicians and regulars alike providing musical accompaniment.

Disappearing posts!!

Postby dgraves » Wed Jul 06, 2005 3:10 am

Am I imagining things, or do select posts disappear? Now you see them, now you don't!! Davie's disappeared, and now Bubbly's-

Gary, that Geograph British site is fun. I enjoyed your photos of Carradale. Your new ones are fantastic, too, on the Carradale Goat site.

Concrete

Postby Ticketty Boo! » Wed Jul 06, 2005 9:44 am

Concrete them in Gary - fair chance of your posts splitting if you whack them. Also, if they are square posts, you have no chance of keeping them square with the whacking machine.

Splitting Posts

Postby GarySutherland » Wed Jul 06, 2005 9:56 am

They're galvanised steel posts so not much chance of splitting but I'll take everyone's comments on-board.

Great night in The Glen last night with some impromptu traditional music from some people holidaying here at the moment.

So good they're doing the same thing on Friday night too.

Yeah it's a great idea too, and lots of fun just browsing for places you know or have visited.

I think that you have got me all wrong wetman, I am trying to promote our town, I am not entirely a fan of the band but what I am attempting is to encourage and endear them to an audience who will appreciate them.
Not everyone liked the Zodiacs, but they did get the town on the map, ditto Andy Stewart.
It is everyones right to get "uppity" as you put it, but in these enlightened times I am the last person to shroud anyone in a black flag of unacceptability.

Earnest Young Men

Postby Hurricane Jeck » Thu Jul 07, 2005 12:45 am

Aye, it's Jeck again callin' frae overseas.

Ah managed tae gie thon nurses the slup this fine day and thocht I wid look in on ye all. Just for auld times sake, ye'll understand? Chust as well I did by the look o'things. There's deng all heppenin' here but earnest young men arguin' lek there's no tomorrow aboot subjects they know hee-haw aboot!

Music? Is that whit ye cry it?

Stop you now, boys. If ma shupmates had been spared we would huv shown ye music. Dougie on the trump, Jum on his wee melodeon an' the Captain holdin' the beat with his size twelve sea-boots thumpin' on the daick or on the floor while gien' Calum Beag ladly 'til his tonsils near fell oot. That was music.

Me, I wusna a player masel' but in ma day boys, I could dance the best o' them oot the door. Man, oor ceilidhs wus legend whether we woss tied up in Furnace, Sandbank or indeed Carradale itself. Ach, but the young folks today they know nothin' about music, nothin' at aall!

Still there wus wan fellow in these parts that hud a bit o' the auld style aboot him. I canna mind his name, but he played the box and bedammt but he was good boys. He wore a bunnet like a fermer's while he woss playing and in the course of the night it would move from the front to the side of his head. And boys oh dear, at the Strip the Wullow he woss chust sublime. Sometimes if I can mind, he would play wi' a drummer, but this man woss no ordinary drummer. As I recall this chentleman woss a wan man rythmn machine. Wi his long blonde hair and big perka jaicket he seemed kinda bulky, but you were never in doubt that underneath lurked a boady lek a finely tuned engine.

Music is it?

I'll gie ye music ye young unfidels. Ye widna know music if it jumped up and sang tae yez. All these dammt beat groups that they have nooadays. That's no' music. Durrty jazz, that's aall it is. Jeest durrty, durrty jazz....

Ochone, auld Jeck is aall washed oot and I'll need to get back tae ma bed afore they try thon nesty, nesty trick on me again wi' the Earl Grey tea....

Ah'll talk tae yez all again at the Terbert Fair if Ah'm spared that long.

The weather

Postby Ticketty Boo! » Thu Jul 07, 2005 7:21 am

Man would ye look at this for a forecast;

http://www.met-office.gov.uk/weather/eu ... tland.html

And this one;

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=2980

Is it not gonna be hellish for the midges? But good fortune favours fair heart - or something! The good shup Ticketty Boo! should have an enjoyable passage from Ardrossan to trumpton tomorrow evening, should she not? I might even make it into the Glen to hear yon guitar plunkers for the last pint if all goes well?

You be careful now Tickety Boo, the Heidless Horseman has been waiting for you and your Bochanettes to set foot in the wee village again. If I was you, I would take the black flag down this year and don't wear the midgie net in case some of the slower crofters think your "wan o' them dammt anarchists" that are running amok in some of the more pretentious parts of the realm. You can't be too careful, especially after the helicopter incident. (Apparently some of them have built a shrine to the great bird at the back of Airds Wood and they have been meeting secretly for worship. It's said they even carry pictures of it as an act of devotion.)

Anyway, I'm just saying, any shennanigans coming from you lot and you'll wish you stayed in Ardrossan. Home-grown Bochans in the village are one thing but I draw the line at a squad from Glasgow running amok through the Garden of Eden. If I as much as see or hear anything out of place I'll be in amongst you before you can shout "Splice the Mainbrace". There now, that's you telt.

Aye, the badness is in me!

Come Away Ashore

Postby Bochan Mor » Fri Jul 08, 2005 9:22 pm

Come away ashore fella Bochans. If ye had set sail an hour or two earlier, you could have joined the Goat at the EKCC meeting.

Never mind, we will read all about it in the morning, no doubt!

Hope you've brought the false faces again and plenty of string. The sheep will be running through the village tonight. Nervous as they pass the bus shelter, but running none the less.

There's bound to be descendants of Joey's in amongst the flock. Surely the family line has survived the chop, or the chops!

That was a fly move, appearing before the Glesga fair, the Grenock team will hopefully carry the can for the high Jinx that are about to ensue.

Pay no Heid to the Horseman, he's well past his sell by date. Just threaten him with another night in Southend, and he'll be straight over to the Largieside as fast as his hoofs will take him.
