I keep a training log of the time and distance of every run. I have to admit, like you 4th gen, I am guilty of trying to improve my time on each particular route every time I go out. I don't feel I'm improving unless I do!

This morning I ran a 6 mile tempo run. Not a bad time, but a bit slower than my last 6 mile run. I don't think I am able to run as fast early in the morning, or that's my excuse anyway :)

just wondering? Do you include a warm up/warmdown in that 6miles tempo run,or your session has the w/up/dn in addition to your main run?

The reason l am asking is if l do a 6 mile tempo run, l,with the w/up/dn include it in the milage ie the session become an 8 miler, and l log the distance and not so much the time.

DJD,

You've got me thinking I'm probably not warming up enough at the start as my whole run is 6 miles. I ease into the first mile at a comfortable pace, which is probably too fast for a true warm-up. I run for six miles, hit the stopwatch, and then cool down by walking back to the house. I'm relatively inexperienced although, so it's helpful to see how I should be approaching my training runs :)

Although I'm training for the half-marathon I have a 10k race coming up soon and I'm keen to see how I can hold a decent pace for 6 miles, so that's probably influencing how I'm approaching these tempo runs!

Enjoying the discussion between Ice Blue and DJD as well.

I will need to try a tempo run tonight......and NOT time it...warm up, fast in the middle then walk the last bit to warm down..........

But I do dozens of miles on the exercise bike as well which I kinda use as a warm down.

l'm sure your doing fine and no doubt your effort is 110% and have a good 10k race, also it will give you a good indicator on how yout training is going once you have your 10k time, you can punch it in to a race predictor and see what time you should be able to achieve for your 1/2 marathon.

Thanks DJD :)

I've looked at a few half marathon training plans and they recommend doing 10k races as part of the build up to the big race itself. It will certainly be a break from doing a long run that weekend!

DJD--my only problem with running on treadmills is that it's really boring.

Do'nt think so Rab,take a look at how it should be done...OK GO.

I've seen that video a few times before, Bill, and it never ceases to amaze me--very clever. If I tried that I would no doubt break something! If you want to see how hard some people find it--look out for the Ronnie Corbett tumble on Peter Kays video version of "Amarillo"

On the training plan, DJD--just in from doing a 10.25 miler. Had intended just to do 10 miles at 8 mpm (1hr 20 mins), but the beautiful weather and everything got to me on the way back in from Machrihanish and I managed to pick up another quarter mile with breeze at back on the return. So much for trying to maintain a steady pace!!!

Thats good running,on a hot day like this.Considering you had slight groin problem you are making great headway and working hard at getting back.l hope you stay injury free and seven weeks is enough time to get some serious running in.6weeks if you don't count the taper.

l can see you taking a few scalps at the MOK. (good stuff).

Going running at 7.30 with my cousins H and J Barbour who some of you may know are 2 of the MOK Run organising team. Both are top class runners and will trail me round my regular route here in Southend! certainly looking forwrad to it this beautiful evening.

All farm work is done for now so I will get the running stuff on and all geared and warmed up for it.

Ach 4th gen Suthen

Its a pity i had to leave the wee village so early for the weddin reception up in the dale, could have got some snap shots oh you . Give us some more notice next time . Passed some other runners on my travels today, looked pretty experienced to me (never thought of taking a pic). Catch up with you later.

By the way, here's an old runner I came across up at the Gap carpark, Mull of Kintyre yesterday.
