The Christmas Goat
Sweedish Folk Customs

One of our oldest Christmas traditions.Dating back to when youth dressed up before christmas. A young man was dressed as a goat went with his friends around the farms. They sang a christmas goat song or acted a play to get food and drink to a party which was held the days after christmas. In the 19th century the christmas goat was the Santa Claus , and was the giver of christmas presents. The Christmas goat of today is made of straw and is a christmas decoration. The worlds largest christmas goat is at the city square in Gävle every year. It has become a tradition to try to burn it before christmas. This year it was watched on the Internet and it survived the holidays

Reminds me of the Wicker Man. Maybe Gary doesn't go out looking for his Christmas Tree until Christmas Eve for fear of being torched by Widow-makers!

Davie P! I remember you well as a young boy and you never threw caution to the wind like you are doing now. You mean to tell me you were all over the shop this week and you are letting it go to the wire regarding presents for the boss. I would take my hat off to you, but I don't have a lot of hair left, so I will leave it on thank you.
You better get her something good, because she deserves it putting up with all of this during the year.
Have a cool time during Yule time!

I honestly can't wait to see her face tomorrow - she will be in great order!

Och you are a clever fella right enough. Are you sure you're naw a burd. I think that is a great name for Tesco's 'cause there are more folk in there on a Sunday than there is in all the places of worship and that is a bit sad.

To try and attract the masses one church had a big sign outside saying

COME ON OVER TO MY HOUSE BEFORE THE GAME.

Don't know if it worked but I hope none of us forget what Christmas is all about and I would like to echo Reeking Pete's wee post above and wish Davie P and his wee family a happy Xmas and a good New Year and the same to you all (well there are some I'd rather leave out)

Nah! Ours is a plastic one and lives in the loft most of the year.

Speaking of Whicker Men there was an amusing posting on the Island Blogging website from Arran this week.

Very definitely, Bubbly- All my best wishes and thanks to Davie and his wife (without her patience, we'd not have a forum!). I wish you all a wonderful Christmas, and all of the Lord's blessings now and in the New Year!

Yes indeedy, Witchy-Woo.

The web address is http://www.bbc.co.uk/islandblogging and I used to write for it when we lived in Tobermory. Kintyre despite being an island by Royal Decree doesn't qualify unfortunately.

The reference to Arran was from one of the bloggers reports of a pub event and what unsuspecting visitors might have thought had they stumbled upon it.

Cheers

Merry Christmas to all my newfound friend(s) (all of you could be the same person  ) You've given me a good laugh over the last few weeks and some interesting conversation. Thanks for that. I hope everyone enjoys their day in peace and laughter and it is even better than you hoped it would be.

It would be sad if it was all the same person but I'm sure it's a least two

Keep taking the pills Morenish, they seem to be working at last. I have never known you and Mrs Morenish to be so happy. Keep up the exercises that I gave you and remember to turn the matress clockwise on your new bed at least once a month. I would advise that every second month, you should unfetter your better half and let her move unrestrictedly around the bedroom.

Again, beware of Reptetitive Strain Injury whilst operating the remote control and keyboard. Spoil the children for the day and untie them from the hoover and the kitchen sink.

Have a good day, and we'll see you for your next appointment on the next dry Tuesday.
