Kintyre Says Thanks

The end of November normally marks the start of Christmas in Kintyre; the lights, shop window decorations, parade and market welcome a month of festivities and fantastic school and community shows. This year we all know and understand that it will be different. The lights will be on and the shop windows decorated but there will be no parade, shows or market. However, in some respects Kintyre is, more than ever, embracing the spirit of Christmas.

The sense of community this year has and continues to be outstanding. We are all trying our best to help one another and we should not underestimate or take for granted the impact this has on us as individuals and on our communities. So here is a thought, lets use this Kintyre Forum post to thank those who have made a difference to you this year. Whether is has been a wave from a neighbour, a chat over the fence, shopping being delivered to your door or quizzes organised on a small or grand scale, calendars sold, zoom classes organised, covid snake stones painted, windows decorated or Facebook pages on food and shopping enjoyed. Share your thanks on here and let’s keep the Christmas spirit alive for the rest of 2020.

Posts from our Facebook Page but please do post in here. The problem with Facebook is it gets very quickly lost! That's the beauty of the original forum - it was easier to follow! https://www.facebook.com/kintyreforum/

The Kintyre Forum - We will go first - THANKS to the person (who wishes to remain anonymous!) for coming up with this idea!

David Colvillie - Well, I’ll start by saying Campbeltown hasn’t looked or felt so good since the late 90’s. The town centre looks great and an actual hive of activity. New shops, take aways and restaurants opening up everywhere. Wee toon definitely looking and feeling great. I for one am proud to have 3 boys growing up in a safe, clean, positive and familiar place. #lovetheweetoon

Kerry Carmichael McGeachy - I agree with David, the town looks brilliant and I am so thankful to live here. I'd like to thank Cheryl Brown as I think she has gone out her way this year to make everyone in this town feel upbeat and included. Her facebook pages have kept us all enterained and also reminded us of the beautiful shops and crafts we have on our doorstep. I'd also like to thank the Campbeltown Co for all their fantastic events for the children and Campbeltown Rocks for the covid snake - we loved taking part and watching it grow. Oh and Halloween with the HalloWee Toon Witch Walk was hands down the best Halloween too. There will be lots more that I've forgotten I'm sure.

Jenny Goodman - In no order of importance, here’s our thanks - Thank you to all the postal staff who continued to work all through lockdown & have a heavy load coming up!! Thank you to Frances & Ian at Muneroy Stores who keep Southend village supplied with newspapers, fantastic takeaway baking & general supplies & deliveries. An extra thank you to Frances for her daily photo postings on FaceBook - made me so homesick some days but was wonderful to see such beautiful views. Thank you to all hospital & healthcare workers & a very sad goodbye to the lovely Robert Black. Thank you to all those staff in all the wee shops/hotels/bars who managed to stay open in the town to keep everyone supplied with food takeaways & deliveries too. Thank you to all Co-op & Tesco staff who also worked all through it all. Thank you to Wilma & her mobile fish van deliveries of wonderful fresh fish.
We were not here for the 1st lockdown as we got stranded in the Cayman Islands - yes, a pretty great place to be stranded but through May, June & July the weather got hotter & hotter & hotter!! It was so very good to land back here 1st August & feel the cool, fresh air!! Thank you too to very kind people who kept an eye on our wee cottage while we were away, for keeping our grass cut, for keeping cottage clean & fresh - you all know who you are & we very much appreciate you all.
Hoping we haven’t missed anyone out but sincere apologies if we have.
Today is Thanksgiving Day - yes, it’s a US thing but we give thanks to so many here.

George Warnock - I would like to thank all the lovely people in cambpeltown who have made us feel welcome since moving to the town a year ago it's such a special place thank you

Flora Grogan - My thanks to all the hospital staff and carers for their hard work Xxxx

Moyra Jane Paterson - What a difference there is in the town. It's actually amazing how much we are bucking the trend. A vibrant town centre with specialised rural shops, housing market buoyant including social and private rented sector and sense of community still buzzing. It's a great place to live. Thanks you to you all x

Christine Sawyer - Thanks to everyone for going the extra mile

Renee Jahr - I am so proud of my hometown and the people who make it what it is, a community to be proud of, looking out for one another, giving to well deserved charities. Where else would you find people posing in the cold for calendars. I look forward to Helen’s quiz nights all the way in Florida even if it means drinking at 3 in the afternoon, all for a good cause! You are all the best and I can’t wait to get home again. Stay safe everyone

Alexis Tennant - I love The Wee Toon I canny wait to get back for a visit

Jean McGown - I would like to say a massive thanks to all NHS workers carers shop assistants and all other people who have worked throughout all those months to ensure the people in Campbeltown were looked after.

Cameron McLellan - Great idea. My thanks got to ALL Key Workers who have kept us all supplied and safe during the lockdown and continue to do so. Thank you!

Kerry Carmichael McGeachy - Great to see the beautiful lights and tree up in the town. It was lovely that Helen was asked to switch the lights on, she has brought so many smiles to others this year.

3rd December 2020 Ruth Reid - Thank you to everyone who helped during lockdown... I don’t know of a single person in Kintyre that didn’t do something just a little bit extraordinary pretty much every day, without thinking or expecting any recognition.

I would like to thank all the volunteers who gave up their time to help others especially in the early days of Lockdown. Many of those volunteers came forward when the Resilience group was set up and are still helping out those in need of assistance. Should we really be surprised though, what fantastic community spirit we have in South Kintyre.
