Re: Carradale - a WILD shine

Postby chuckiebay » Mon May 12, 2008 7:42 pm

Thrs a wild shine goin on at Portrigh the now. They're all dacent dacent folk doon there and niver known tae cause any trubble but ah met wan the other dae an' whit a state he wis in. The Portrigh crowd hivna had a daecent night's sleep for long because o' they deng heidbangers o'goats off the point. Jeest whin the folk are settlin doon wi' the teeth in the jars an' the specs off the noises start. Goats are jumpin the fences dancin on the grevel an munchin the hedges no tae mention the whiff off them - gyaads. He wundered if maybe there could be a light at the end o' the tunnel if ah could use ma influence wi' the owner o' the gates and pit him off the roses idea. Ah wid be kinda spited tae dae that but ah suppose health comes first. He wants the gates set up at the wire at Portrigh tae keep the brutes in their place.

The snag is ah don't hiv any influence atol in that quarter but maybe sumdy could set up a poll an we could choose between the roses or the gates at the wire.

Another thought wis that maybe fundraisin activities could be stairted tae buy the gates at a fair price but ah do no if that wid work.

The dilemma o' the Goats

Postby SARID » Tue May 13, 2008 7:34 pm

It's na only Purtree that his a wild problem wi the goats. The folk in the houses above the quay,
backin on tae the golf course, ir on rid alert day an night because o' the goats antics. Apparently
they can jump that high ( the Goats ! ) that the folk concerned hav hit on the idea o' geein the goats
names, and sending them tae Bayjing tae represent Britain at the high jump in the Olympics. That wid
maybe gie the country a gold medal or two, an wae any luck the goats wid forget tae come back.-----
Problem solved!!
Jokin apart, Ah wonder why the goats are such a problem now. When Ah wis wee the goats niver
left the Point, an wir niver a nuisance. Has this only happened after goats wir brought in tae
make up the numbers after some wir slaughtered some years ago

The last time ah wiz over the point ah saw a few wee goats from the original herd. They're shy wee things - awful scraggy an' bedraggled lookin' and there wisna very many o' them. The herd that wander are a majestic breed wi' long flowin' wool. No wunner somebody thought it wiz the "White Lady" ghost standin' at the Pudding Bowl when it wiz just gettin' dark.

Maybe they're lookin' for a new home as they canna like gettin' chased wi' cap guns. Ah heard they marched into Tarbert recently. Ah'm sure they would impress the "dookers"wi' these lovely big horns an' beards.

Here's another of the Euphemia at Portrigh. An Angus MacDonald picture. This was photographed by Eric Cregeen in the 50s. They put the picture on the roof of Angus's house to take the photo.

:? There's a photo (postcard?) on page 2 of Carol McNeill's book "Old Kintyre" (ISBN:978-1840333992] from which this painting could only have been made. It gives the date as 1912.

The Hall

Postby Right Pongal » Sat May 24, 2008 7:24 pm

I hear that the Bochan is organising some of thon Beebop a Lula in the Hall tonight. He's got no shame whatsoever, and I would suggest selling some of thon Cratur, the demon druag into the bargain.

And the name of the bands are jeest fearful! 'String Drivel Sing', 'Stanky and the Coo Skitters' and 'Mooses Colodium'

I was going to say that they all sound like S***e, but that wouldna be right pongal.

Never mind, things are not as bad as they might be, despite the price of fuel. I spotted Morenish and Sanyanya doing a very neighbourly thing for the Bochan before his return from his world cruise. Aye, they jacked up the Black Shadow and returned the wheels that they had 'away polishing' and syphoned a load of diesel from Morenish's tractor into the big estate.

Good fellas right enough!
