My gran sang a variant of this rhyme to a tune I recall but cannot replicate here.

Gran's version went:

Cocky Bendy had a wife,
She wis awfa dandy,
She fell in below the bed
And tummelt ower the chanty.

Cocky he went in below
An' felt an awfa stink,
That's cos Cocky Bendy's wife
Had ta'en a fizzin' drink.

Presumably the 'fizzin' drink' referred to some sort of laxative like liver salts.

Gran was born in 1886 and died in 1967.

I had a wonderful two-week vacation in Carradale during July 1965. We stayed at The Carradale Hotel which at that time was owned by Mr & Mrs MacDougall. I remember Mr MacDougall particularly well. He was a tall distinguished-looking gentleman with a moustache who smoked WILL'S WHIFFS cigars and drove a blue Austin Westminster car. I also remember Miss MacDougall, a very attractive young girl in her late teens or early twenties. Happy days indeed. :D

Did anyone else see the Spitfire buzzing the bay this afternoon (about 25 to 5)? Better still, did anyone get any pictures of it?
He came down the glen, did a couple of circuits around the bay, buzzed us up at Toshs Park and then seemed to head towards Arran. Is there an air show going off somewhere?
Remember, a penguin is for life not just for elevenses.

I knew this was a planned visit, but out of the blue it appeared over Carradale. Islay had its airshow yesterday and it may have been one of the visiting aircraft. Unfortunately I was away yesterday but a good source may have some info and photos later.

Small Blue Pills Missing

Postby Snoddy » Sat Sep 11, 2010 9:09 pm

It has come to my attention that a large quantity of small blue pills has gone missing from the dispensary at the surgery. If anyone happens to see a gentlemen (Youthful or elderly and not driving a Landrover) goose-stepping around the village to some authority, then please drop me a line. If the said gentleman wishes to have his blood pressure checked, then please make an appointment at your earliest convenience.

P.S. Remember to take plenty of water, salt and glucose with these tablets
Dr Snod Esq.

Two spoonfulls of Halibut-Liver Oil, Morning & Evening. You know the surgery hours, so don't bother me at any other time. I most certainly don't get paid enough.

Any resemblance to Snoddy's past and present are purely coincidental!

A hell of a man for one man, chugging up Grogport Brae singing:

'I've been a wile drover through many's a gear
and spent all my money on frisky young rears.
Now I've returned with cold sores galore
and never will be that wile drover no more!'

What the devil is going on here? Between Snoddy and his dirty pills and now Witchnettle grooming young boys like ourselves into the hall to play with balls, this village is not the place it used to be. Mind you Witchnettle, where else could you get them jiggling for £1.30?
Don't jeest leave it at yer erse, everything has a place ....................so keep it Pongal!

My sister was going for a hot stone massage the other day (funded from her potatoe picking money) and after she mentioned it around the camp fire, my father asked my mother if he could get the same.

'Aye she said, as she emptied a half can of Ralgex that fell from a bag at Wellpark into his trousers. The heat applied, she left him to do his own massage as he ran to the Portrigh well!

Dr Snoddy has niver let us know whether he established the idenity of the "wee blue pills " thief.Haav we still tae keep a lookoot fur a fellow waakin aboot lake wan o' them robots, or is it a fella wae a rigid diget ?
Haav ye noticed over the last few Winters, the Carradil folk elegible fur the flu jab,(an that includes masel ) seem tae go intae a wee state o' hibernation, efter the injection. Is it the flu jab the good Doctor's administrating, or a wee dose o' tranquiliser, tae lessen his workload ower the Winter Ah think A'll gee the jab a miss this Winter, an see how it goes!
