How is the training going

For 2011 we have decided to give the healthy local running and jogging community a forum of their own!

Great running on Gigha all of you! Hector certainly is a speedy wee devil but soon RabMcD will be right up there beside him.

Dont suppose I will ever be able to go to that particular race but I would not have been able to run anyway....still not a step since the accident :( ..........bike is no substitute but better than nothing.......maybe by this weekend....race is still a month away so no damage done yet.

I know Gail but wonder if I know Iceblue............ :?: running community in this area is not that big so surely I do!

Right, if I hammer in some threshold miles on the exercise bike that will do SOME good.

I'm sure you do 4th gen

Back to training - I went out for an easy run last night to ease the sore legs after Gigha. Seems to have worked!

Iceblue

Thats the session to do after a hard race.Well done the other day.

Did my last speed session befor my run. Mile w/up 8x400mx200m recovery mile w/dn all on the treadmill, its not a bad session to try out if you only have a 5mile run to do,and want a sharp work out.

4th gen

l'm a bit like yourself, that l like to go abroad and do a marathon once a year.l meet up with runners from my old club and we taste the delights of good food, the good wine and see Cities, that if we never got into running we would never see. This year we are going to Wroclaw as you know its in Poland.

My marathon times are not that special, hoping to get under 3:20 for this one,but l love the training and for my age its not bad, although there is very good runners out there that are older and a bit special,as you know.

Thanks for asking and l hope your gentle jog outcome is good.

Hi Annie

No l did not get to see it.Robert Cheruiyol win Boston, but them boys are really very special.Kenya churns them out, even their so called mediocre runners at the marathon distant are better than our boys. Thats no disrespect to ours runners Jon Brown ect.

Anybody out there that is interested in doing a marathon should see AIMS web site (Association of Internationals Marathons) and get some inspiration and an idea of which one they would like to tackle. Its the only sport you can line up with the best or like me see them on their way back to the finish as l have still roughly 8 miles to do.

Thanks for that DJD, sounds like a fantastic trip......and for anyone to get under 3.20 takes a HUGE amount of effort and training...good luck.

Thanks for NYC Marathon link Annie, great memories....not been there since 2000....there is just as much hard work in that one actually coping with the city and getting to the Staten Island start point....but it is the most wonderful experience....it is very "doable" and I would recomend it to any runner...you gotta do it at least once...and then you will want to go back to "get it right" took me 3 goes and still didn't manage that!! next time maybe.......hey, howzabout a wee group from Campbeltown signing up some year soon.....give me an excuse to try again........just think of the great photos we could get for this site!!

Anyway, went out jentle jogging last night but only managed 2 miles at a very slow pace and in quite some pain :( :?

London Marathon

Postby Ninja Mania » Mon Apr 23, 2007 9:15 pm

1 man dies, 57 taken to hospital, and over 5,000 people had to be treated by paramedics, hmmm me is thinking its time to slow down and take it easy all you people off the older generations who intend running in these events.

Ask yourself this question,- is it the Hare or the Tortoise that lives longest, take it easy, its time for a cadburys caramel.

I think anyone planning to do a run for the first time should get a medical check-up and good training advice - too many people rush into it without much thought and could be asking for trouble. I am hoping to run my 6th 10k in Cambeltown after taking up running 2 years ago at 73 but I did consult my GP and I have an excellent fitness instructor who keeps me right. My health- and shape! have improved considerably so meanwhile I will pass on the caramels!
