You prefer the ones that continue to post inane drivel then? Whatever. Enjoy.

Censored

Perhaps it is the inane drivel on this thread that makes it so popular?
Certainly leaves all the others standing with almost 80,000 hits ........

On the other hand, I expect it's just that you don't understand the humour which generally underpins it.
Just so as you know what you are attempting to mock, much of this thread is drawn directly from the cultural landscape of Carradale going back many, many years and is obviously well above your head.

If it offends your sensibilities so much that it drives you to post "amusing" pieces of clip art, perhaps you should stop reading it and do everyone a favour by sticking to threads that are more suited to your limited intellectual capacity?

Thou spaketh for me...

Although censored's 6 posts were extremely interesting and thought provoking, full of insight and revelation, chock full of humor and pathos, and although I know it makes no sense choosing the drivel over the profound, and I'll probably regret this, I'll stick with the 42000 other posts.

It is with a little fear and trepadation that I venture into this hallowed thread of "The Bochans".

The reason for my visit is to ask if any of the older Bochans can remember this CO-OP mobile shop, driven by myself in the late 60s,when I was a lad of 18.I would go to Carradale/Grogport and surrounding farms.Having not long passed my test,to be driving this without the aid of syncromesh gears on those winding roads was not for the faint hearted.Going down the hill to Grogport was bad enough, but comming back up was worse.

My young brother is the boy in the pictures, infact he might be known to some of you Bochans as he is in Carradale regularly to repair the electrics/alternators etc. on the fishing boats.

Aye, I mind the van fine:

I can also mind the kids running with trepidation behind it with clothes pegs on their noses singing:

'I love a cookie
A co-operative cookie,
but you cann't get near it for the smell!'

To the tune of 'I Love a Lassie'

The village had plenty of its own vans, including 'The Bakers', 'Wee Scoom' and 'DC Campbell & Sons'. Basil and Barney were always good for a laugh: Naturally their emporium on wheels was scrupulously clean with a welcoming aroma. Irvines from Tighnabruich were also regulars, but still, and I'll say it again, the most respected travelling trader to vend his wares in the village was Cooshie Mohammad.

I have a picture of Cooshie opening his suitcase and displaying his clothes to my mother....his bike visible out the kitchen window in the background.....'86 or '87 must have been one of his last visits.

I have often wondered if I should give it to someone or post it on here.

A well respected man, lived behind to me in Campbeltown. His many visits to Dippen, my wife's late mother with all his wares on his days to Carradale. Pity i did not have one of these digi cameras then :( , his bike loaded with cases, the padded seat and that warm greeting he gave you :) . please the pic John.

Dr Snoddy at your service!

I apologise to anyone else living in tormhor for the noise, (but G & T seems to help a lot on that front) Does anyone suffer from the "friends you only see and hear from once a year, except when the sun is shining and a cheap holiday at the beach beckons" syndrome. I'm getting it bad this year.
Talking of ailments, a wasp flew up my skirt the other day and i got stung about 6 times on the thighs. Now the stings are soooooo itchy i've tried everything so far the only thing working is the trusted gin (taken internally of course) can anyone recommend something and what is all this itching about? perhaps Dr Snoddy could help me out here.

Good Afternoon Mam,

I presume that it is safe to assume that you desire a consultation with oneself. Please have your BUPA reference number available for inspection on my arrival this afternoon. I also need you to collect 200 litres of the finest malt vinegar, which you then need to deliver to Mr Morenish.

I have left a prescription for the vinegar at the bakers shop and Mr Morenish has kindly agreed to warm the non-brewed condiment to a precise temperature of 39 degrees Celcius on his wood burning stove. Mr Sanyanya has unselfishly gathered a selection of willow, hazel and rosehip and placed them in his tin bath, which is now mounted on the trailer attached to Morenish's tractor.

On my arrival, a blind-folded Sanyanya and Morenish will lower you gently into the infusing liquor in the bath, before driving you over the golf course to the rock pools at the back of Balfadyen point.

At this point, Sanyanya will offer you a raw, wire-worm-free and peeled turnip to bite on, as they swing you into the centre of the deepest pool, carefully avoiding scouders and anenomes.

The whole process should take no more than 45 minutes and any notion of itchiness will have left you by the time you return to the comfort of your own home.

P.S. Some more of the G&T might not be a bad idea, keeping in mind that excess consumption could result in a drop in the core temperature of your body, which could in turn affect the outcome of the bucket chemistry about to be performed.
Dr Snod Esq.

Two spoonfulls of Halibut-Liver Oil, Morning & Evening. You know the surgery hours, so don't bother me at any other time. I most certainly don't get paid enough.

Any resemblance to Snoddy's past and present are purely coincidental!
