Council Tax

Postby hoots the scoop » Wed Feb 06, 2008 10:12 pm

Hoots the scoop with people thinking we now have two months FREE Council Tax, eh?

Do they not realise we pay a higher proportion the other 10 months of the year just so you can get Feb and March "FREE".

I remember a friend who told me they phoned the council and asked to pay over 12 months but were told no. Why not?

Must admit it is nice to have a couple of months without paying it but people saying it is FREE gets right up my big right nose.

Discuss....

Maybe they just mean that they are free of paying it for a couple of months??.

Good psychology on the council's part though to make us feel as though we are getting a bargain but......do you know what gets up my nose.?.....................Maw Paw and half a dozen weans who pay less than 2 folk. Now that is annoying.

Bring back the poll tax. At least it was fair and depended on the amount of bodies in the house as to how much you paid for increased sewage, light pollution and all the bath water for a full house.

Buzz - under the "Poll Tax" you would have had to pay 1 x Poll Tax. A single person under the Council Tax may get a discount

"If you live on your own, you are automatically entitled to a single person's discount of 25 per cent on your Council Tax bill. "

But you are paying 75% of what TWO people pay.

Perhaps you should think again.

We should be getting a month free of Council Tax with these strikes on the go, as we're not getting a full months proper service from the council.

How many folk were upset and complained when Vodafone went down last year or whenever it was, and got discounts/money back when they seen they were paying for less than a months service.....!!

You can't assume Maw and Paw's weans are under 18, Daft Dog. I would imagine Spangles point is you can have a family of 5 (all over 18 ) staying in the exact same house as that of two but each household pays the same.

So, see your weans are always your weans regardless what age they are.

Missing the point my freen. Maw Paw and 6 hairy ar$ed weans = 8 and that is 4 times more effluent going into the sewage system. 4 x times more water useage all equates to a quarter of the costs.......but that's going off the thread a bit and considering we live in a town with the least amenities and one of the highest council tax bills I think my point is relevant.

I'm naw that daft jeest a poor sucker making sure all those weans get an education when I have none of my own and no bins lifted for the past fortnight. Makes you wonder that we don't get a bigger discount when there are only 2 in the house. So no single person discount yet unless I bump off the wife and get a new bidey in and don't tell the cooncil.

Well, yknow what, if anyone here can suggest in detail a FAIRER system to collect local tax, then plase come forward. In fact i suggest you send your suggestion to the SNP who have decided not to scrap Council Tax even though part of their campaign was based on getting rid of it.

One suggestion was to replace it with a local income tax.... So lets see, 3 working adults living in the same size property as the unemployed drunk next door, pays several hundred pounds a month while the drunk pays nothing (who is on benefits of course)

Thats the thing that bothers me the most are the spongers that pretend they cant work or wont work and would rather wait for their Giro every week only to go straight to the pub, then have the cheek to say they cant afford a tenner a month to pay Council Tax.

But if you ask me, what they need to do is put up the cost of rates on commercial properties, which has been frozen for umpteen years. But of course the council would never do that seeing as they need the businesses in this dying town.

Smokynuk - Is that official? Honestly can't see them replacing Council Tax with local income tax but didn't realise the SNP finally realised what was involved.

Well first off they planned to freeze Council Tax for 2-3 years, but I got it from a very reliable source it aint gonna get scrapped. But honestly, if they decide not to get rid of council tax, theyre not gonna sing it from the rafters are they? Theyre gonna try let it slip away quietly and hope no one notices. I mean see how many times Blair mentioned Weapons of Mass Destruction before and after they invaded Iraq?... well same tactics here mate.

my street lights haven't been working for weeks, can i claim a rebate? or maybe the electricity company switched them off when they were digging up the road the other week and forgot to switch them back on, just like they forgot to tell me they were sticking the power off in the first place. when i went outside to enquire about this, i was asked why i was a special case that needed to be informed, i replied that i thought it obvious, seeing as he was standing outside my gate at the time. apparently they don't have time to tell you if they are cutting the power, but you have plenty time to sit by a phone listening to endless recorded messages just so you can report a fault. luckily i had plenty time to make an official complaint about the attitude, and lo and behold what happens two days later? yes, they stick it off again without telling me.

sorry, bit off thread, but thought it was an example of the way the paying customer is treated and thats what you are with your council tax, if anyone thinks they are getting value for money let the rest of us know your secret?
