Stank of Heat

Postby Right Pongal » Tue May 06, 2008 8:23 pm

Is there naw jeest a wile stank of heat? Ner cast a cloot indeed! It was that warm today that I had to peel off one of my jumpers and if this carrys on, I'll need to cast a pair of seaboot stockings as well. Even Morenish's lum has stopped reekin, the bib of his bib and brace has been dropped to his waist and the grass cutters have shifted their efforts to the cool of the evening to avoid heat stroke.

I was down the quay on my bike earlier and had a wild job turning. Still in a state of flux, it looks as if thon pile of gates are about to be fabricated into a sheep fank. I'm not sure if that's to keep the Fillipinos constrained within eyesight of the 12 mile limit or to prevent thieves from running away with the coal for the focsle stoves. I expect we'll read about it in the Antler or on Goat Island.

The way things are going down there, we'll need to get the burn dredged and the road down to the Portrigh shore reinstated. Those that are good at rowing should head for Port Na Sgadan or the Cuil. Aye, it looks like we are heading for a siege. We'll maybe need to get back the coal smack Euphemia if we're going to have a chance of surviving the next winter!

What the devil has happened to Wee Humphlock and thon team? I'm allowing that they were clapped in irons along wae poor General Jeck and exiled on Trawler Photos dot com (In the scrapped and decommissioned section). It all happened that quick, that he never even got a chance to share his smoked fish and link or was it square sausage recipe wae us: A damn spite!

I wonder is it a Big Jim ban or just a Tina you know who?

Thanks, Bitter End, for info on " Euphemia "--------- wild that A've niver heard o' her !
Ah have a hazy recollection, when Ah wis very wee, o' a boat comin in tae Port--na --Cuil fill o' coal. The orders, usually in tons, wir distributed roond the village. Ah seem tae mind horse and cairt wir used, but am maybe wrong, an it wis maybe lorries.
Another memory Ah hav, wis when Ah wis in Jackson's class in Carradil School, we did a project on the herrin fishing. At that time ( late forties) there wir a few old fishermen still aboot who wir born aroond 1860----1870, an we wir sent tae interview them. Ah spoke tae Jamie Tosh, who lived in Airds.
The whole project wid make interesting readin the day, but wis probably pit on a bonfire years ago. Ah canna mind a thing aboot it!
Jackson wis very keen on good spelling, and ye wir liable tae get the strap if ye had wan or two wrong in the frequent spelling tests. As a result am considered "no a bad Speller " ------ Something tae be said for the days o' the strap!!

Yez hiv got it all wrong aboot the fank at the quay. Whits tae happen is that ther'll be 2 layers o' the gates wan on top o' the other an roses planted to climb an twine all over them. It'll be jeest sublime an big fancy yachts wi women in bikinis draped over the deck swill be comin' from all over tae admire the beauty o' Carradale quay. A fortune will be made in that wee shop doon there. Maybe the whole village will benefit.

Chuckie bay, I believe that you may be nursing an elevated temperature. Either that or you have been dabbling in dandelions and dockens again.

Yachts? I personally don't see it myself. Goodness gracious, the fair weather mariners would put one yellow gum boot ashore and surmise that they have disembarked into a cross between Brigadoon and Steptoe's emporium. No, I think our only hope is that the Shanghai metal company's next Clyde due freighter takes a wrong turning at the South end of Arran and sees the potential razor blades lying around for all and sundry to view.

Any resemblance to Snoddy's past and present are purely coincidental!

Keep a close eye on Chuckiebay, Dr Snoddy. The delusions voiced aboot the Quay could well be due
tae a touch o' the sun last Thur. Ah took a wee dander doon tae the Big Bay, an there wis Chuckie
an a pal, troosers rolled up above the knee, staggerin aboot ,in fur a paddle. Ah wisna near enough
tae be completely sure, but ah think they hed glesses in their hans, fill o' some kinda "nectar .
Ah hope tae goodness,Chuckie isna turnin a "bit Foolish " -----an expression ma Muther used tae use
tae describe someone foond o' an alcoholic drink.
