Hello from down south

Postby Tosh » Sun May 20, 2007 4:33 pm

HI
Andy McIntosh, (or Tosh to my friends) from Newark in Nottinghamshire.
I spent many happy summers in Carradale as a kid though I haven't been back for about 20 years.
My Dad was born in Carradale in 1932 and grew up in the bank house.
I showed him the 'Goat' website last time he visited and he was reminiscing like mad :)
He still gets to Carradale quite often so some of the locals probably know him.

I've been doing some family tree stuff recently and trying to work out when the McIntoshs first arrived in Carradale but the ealiest i have at the moment is 1820 but I've traced roots in Campbeltown back to 1666.

I'm going through some old slides at the moment that date from the mid sixties to the mid eighties and already tuning up some nice shots, Gary has already put a shot of Bairn's Pride on 'the Goat'

It would be great to hear from anyone who has done any family research that might tie in or any relations or folks that just want to chat.
Cheers
Tosh

PS isn't it time Fish played the MOKfest ?

Not bad for an ex-Forestry chainsaw monkey.

There's hope for some of these boys yet :)

Actually, I'd pay good money to see Fish play again, or preferably the old Marillion line-up itself.

He's touring his new album and celebrating 20 years of Clutching at Straws

The closest you'll get to the old line up is the free gig in Aylesbury market square in August, special gusts have been hinted at ;-)

Me? naw, just the prat family ;-)

While we're on the subject of Fish I met StephenJ in Haddngton after asking him about his 'Company Kintyre' t-shirt and didn't realize he was a cousin until later, he wasn't the only one in said t-shirt who might the others have been, I seem to remember one of them being called Bazza Wazza.

The only Jack I can think of is my dad's cousin Jack, I think he moved away to Inverness for a bit then came back, Hi Mother was Catherine McIntosh if that helps, sprat reference means nothing to me though.

might well be the same man, i'm sure some of the bochans on the carradale thread would know, i can only vaguely remember the jack i'm talking about, he was sharp featured, tall thin with jet black hair and a rather long pointed nose, if my memory from childhood isn't playing tricks on me. might be same person, i think he had at least one son, but it must be over 35 yrs ago so anything is possible, maybe one of my brothers would remember better than me. i will ask my mother, as its going to annoy me now.

oh, you never mentioned your fathers name? and are you related to duncan macintosh the fisherman?

I think Duncan is a second cousin, I'm not sure, I'd have to check with my dad who to answer your other question is John Mcintosh, known to some as John the bank (as he lived in the bank house after moving up from the shore road)
He still gets back to the village fairly often and was up for a Ruby wedding a few weeks back.
He moved away to Tighnabruaich in the mid forties but his Dad(Archiebald) moved back later and Lived up at Broomfield.

cheers

my whole clan moved to the town in the mid fifties after my grandfather died, i'm one of the "red shaws" as opposed to the "black shaws" which were the offspring of his first wife, i'm not even going to chance the spelling of where they used to live as i'd invariably get it wrong and have my knuckles wrapped by someone (moineuruadh?) i know its wrong spelling but with a name like that i could spend all day and only get it right by chance, especially if your cousin or one of that other lot saw it
