Lorne makes Young Trad finals for 2nd year

Postby Mary G » Tue Oct 06, 2009 8:12 pm

Carradale piper Lorne MacDougall has made the finals of the Young Traditional Musician for the second year in a row. This is a fabulous achievement for Lorne, and comes on the back of the exciting debut performance with Hoots Heppnin' at the Mull of Kintyre Festival in August.

Congratulations, Lorne!

It will be a tough final, with three harp players, two pipers and a fiddler taking part. That will be very difficult to judge and I wish him all the best for the January final.

Not that I am biased, or anything, but Lorne is certainly the best of an excellent bunch. Anyone else listening?

His music choices have been fantastic - really adventurous. And very good for showing off his massive talent and virtuoso playing. Best audience reaction, too.

Now - if there is any justice ...

And where is EMDEE when you need him? His expert opinion would be interesting to hear.

I'm biased and still think he was the best. I think he will need to take up the fiddle! His niece is sure if he had played her tune he would have won! Still a great achievement to get to the final. :D

I must confess to being too busy this month to have had much chance to listen to the radio, or even to be aware of this event being on. I was out in the car earlier on tonight, and heard the end of Lorne's piping performance. It was a version of "Mrs MacPherson of Inveran", and the articulation and fingering were phenomenal. :<> I didn't hear any of the others, but this would have been hard to beat.

I didn't hear the fiddle player, but must also confess to being a more severe critic of this area of traditional music.

Might enter for it mesel' next year!

Aye right! maybe 30 years ago!

I have bumped this up the list as Lorne will be appearing with the rest of the finalists from this years event on Saturday 29th October in Campbeltown Heritage Centre.
