Permission to date daughter

Postby Govangirl » Fri May 02, 2008 9:11 pm

Is there anyone out there with a teenage daughter? I've got two older teenage boys but with my youngest, a girl, I've noticed a VERY distinct change in my husband when it comes to them meeting up with the opposite sex. Now that she is getting older, I've discovered he has different views when it comes to her!!!!!! Read his attached permission form and see for yourself.

had 4 teen girls at home, when they brought a possible boyfriend home, husband walked through the house with the chainsaw running. Never spoke just looked at the poor young fella and grunted. Have to say they all married well so it must have worked.

FOUR!!!!! Oh my Lord, that's scary! I've got one that's 12 and not even a teenager yet and compared to my boys, it's like dealing with an alien. She's adorable but just the wrong word will send her off into a flounce for 3 hours.

I have three sons, so I don't have the dilemmas some others have. I have no conception (wrong word?)of the mental anguish other people go through.

Maybe its because i have a daughter and two sons (its hard to say how i would think with just boys or girls), but I myself worry more about a father knocking my door to tell me my son has got his wee girl pregnant  at least if its your wee girl, you can help her and give her advice and support about her options (depending on your beliefs).

But if its your son involved you don't really have a say in what happens. The young men are just as much victims of the circumstances as the young women, as are the parents of the kids involved, but society in general frowns upon the "Lad" and occasionally his family for getting the girl pregnant, when it takes two to tango as they say.

Some lads take responsibility some don't.

Some girls (or their families) let the lad take responsibility, some don't.

The original post maybe a good laugh, but how many parents would actually LOVE to be able to hand out such a thing to the boyfriend/girlfriend of their children??

I would, if it was possible..

And dads who boast about their boys being just like their dads are "ferkin idiots" and the ones who think their sons are the bee's knees for getting someone's wee girl pregnant should be taken out, tied to a post in the main street and made a spectacle of.

Unfortunately, this is a local forum, so its a difficult subject to discuss, as some users will no doubt have been in the situation themselves, whether its as a parent of a child who found themselves faced with the prospect raising a child themselves or as a child faced with the prospect of telling a parent (a father even) that they may be/are pregnant or they have made another parents wee girl pregnant.

So, my question is to users who have children: What is your view on which you would prefer.. A teenage pregnancy involving your Son or Daughter?? (everyone touch wood before you reply. I can give you a loan of the oak hat i am wearing or the willow gloves i am wearing)

and Ninja, i have just this minute crossed my fingers, arms, legs, eyes and done a few "wallet, watch, spectacles, testicles" that i never have to face this dilemma. I would even wear i love Boruc tshirt everyday till my wee girls is 21 if it meant she never came home to me crying she is pregnant and if any man says they wouldn't do the same, then there you WILL find a bigot..

(Ninja didn't and never has inferred that i am a bigot. Just incase some read this and think he did.. It was just a tongue in cheek reference to a "cross my fingers" remark in the Boruc thread.)

Daftdog, my husband uses it as a joke just with me - as much as he dreams he was that kind of boy when he was younger, we know it wasn't true (as I've been with him since I was 15!!!!!)

But you've posted a very interesting discussion. I actually do know he sees my daughter in a different way and God help her when she brings home her first boyfriend as he'll have to be the best. But with my sons, I think they've got the worse deal. It's lovely that girls are more confident now but I don't think boys know where they are any more. I see many teenager boys who are facing considerable difficulties and I think it's an explosive situation for the future. With my own boys, I'm lucky they're growing into fine young men but I've always been aware of the 'don't cry', 'be a man', 'that's girly stuff', 'that's gay', etc. language. Too many boys are made to focus these days on sport and school and sex and not enough on personal relationships, something girls generally find easier. Our society restricts males from expressing emotions and discourages them from asking for help.
Then there's the element of boys growing up without a male role model, either at home or in the wider society (David Beckham, enough said).
There's the changing trends in schools (where they are encouraged to be more like girls to try and raise their supposedly lower achievement) and workplaces. Boys, particularly working class ones, used to leave school for an apprenticeship, factory work or labouring but nowadays, they have to adjust to a workplace increasingly emphasising teamwork, communication and multi-skilling. My husband works for an American firm and goes across the pond often - his experience of team meetings make me howl with laughter but he often says that as a working class lad himself just out of Glasgow Uni, he would have been ill-equipped for that environment. It seems to suit females though!
The fact is, there's a rising rate of suicide amongst teenage boys.

Jeez!!!!!!!! How did I manage to get on to all this?????? All I really wanted to say was that I know how hard it is for lads and ended up being this depressing on The House of Fun!!!!!! Sorry! :?
